When I visited Athens, I took the bus on arrival and the metro when departing, so I’ve tried both options firsthand.

Athens Airport Metro (M3 Line): Best All-Rounder
If you want a balance of speed, convenience, and affordability, the Athens Airport Metro is the best way to reach the city center.
You’ll need to take Metro Line 3 (Blue Line), with direct connections to Syntagma and Monastiraki.

💰 Price: €9 for adults, €4.50 for children, students, & seniors OR €16 return ticket (valid for 30 days)
⏰ Journey time: 40 minutes
📅 Schedule: every 30 minutes from 6:30 AM – 11:30 PM
⚠️ Make sure that you buy the specific airport ticket, and not a regular Athens city ticket, as you will be fined (like I was).
