Jardim do Morro Sunset: Overview
Jardim do Morro is a lush hilltop garden located just over the river from Porto.
From here, you get incredible panoramic views of Porto’s historic center and the River Douro.
This spot is particularly magical at sunset, where it transforms into a magnet for locals and tourists alike and has a buzzing atmosphere.
If you’re visiting the city, you simply cannot miss the Jardim do Morro sunset in Porto.
How to get to Jardim do Morro
Jardim do Morro isn’t actually located in Porto; it’s located just over the river in Vila Nova de Gaia.
The park sits right next to the top level of the Dom Luís I Bridge, so it’s super easy to reach from central Porto.
To reach Jardim do Morro, you have a few options –
- Walk across the top of the Dom Luís I Bridge (most convenient)
- Walk across the bottom of the Dom Luís I Bridge + take the Gaia Cable Car (recommended)
- Take the metro – the stop is Jardim do Morro + you’ll take Line D (yellow)

My recommendation?
If you’re short on time or simply want to reach the gardens in the quickest & cheapest way, I’d suggest walking across the top of the Dom Luís I Bridge.
However, for a truly incredible experience, here’s what I’d do –
Start your Jardim do Morro sunset mission on the Porto side and walk across the lower level of the Dom Luís I Bridge.
Then, browse the Gaia waterfront – this side is much calmer, you’ve got great views, and there are many places to stop for a drink or a snack.
An hour or so before sunset, hop on the Gaia Cable Car (Telerifico de Gaia) and glide over the terracotta rooftops.
It will drop you right next to Jardim do Morro, where you can enjoy the breathtaking sunset.
Finally, walk back over the top level of the Dom Luís I Bridge and appreciate the twinkling city lights as you return to Porto.

Live music
The buskers bring the vibes with the live music, giving the whole place such a buzzing energy.
Not just your typical acoustic guitarists, but also chilled techno music, a saxophone soloist, and a group of (incredible) drummers.
